1 Peter 1:22-25

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living abiding word of God: for "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls but the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

This passage teaches us alot, both about the need to live our lives according to God's word but also that ultimately only the Word lasts forever,we will pass away. Yet it also gives us the hope that if we believe this imperishable word we too are born again of an imperishable seed and have the promise of eternal life through our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

Today we may think we are invinceable, that nothing can touch us. We can think that individually but also as part of our communities or companies we work for. Yet the recent economic crisis the world has suffered has taught us how finite we are, that even the strongest can be brought to their knees. One commentator says about the verses "The beauty of the flower is short lived, especially in a tropical or sub-tropical climate, so is the glory that man radiates because of his talents, achievements or riches. The winds of change blow and quickly remove glory and honor"

Today the wind of change may be blowing in your life but remember what the conclusion of the verses say. "the word of the Lord stands forever" Trust in the Word, the God of the Word and Jesus Christ the Word incarnate. In Him we have hope when we and everything around us fail and passes away. Remember the great command to love the lord your God with all your heart soul strength and mind and your neighbour as yourself. Remember others as they go through times of hardship too. Listen to the good news.

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
